Context-Tree-Based Lossy Compression and Its Application to CSI Representation

We propose novel compression algorithms for time-varying channel state information (CSI) in wireless communications. The proposed scheme combines (lossy) vector quantisation and (lossless) compression. First, the new technique is based on a class of parametrised companders applied each component normalised CSI vector. Our algorithm chooses suitable compander an intuitively simple way whenever empirical data are available. Then, sequences indices compressed using context-tree-based approach. Essentially, we update estimate conditional distribution source at instant encode current symbol with estimated distribution. have low complexity, linear-time both spatial dimension time duration, can be implemented online fashion. run simulations to demonstrate effectiveness such scenarios.
